After mentioning Freddy in my last post....
So word on the street is that they are getting ready to shoot the remake of "A Nightmare On Elm Street." I am pretty much devistated by this news, as I am a lifelong Freddy devotee (the very first movie i ever bought was Nightmare 4 on VHS. It had just came out that day, i was 8 years old)
Now, I am trying to keep an open mind about this, because, although I am SO not a fan of horror remakes - this one is being produced by Michael Bay, who produced the Texas Chainsaw remake, which i surprisingly really liked. But after the Rob Zombie Halloween fiasco (which, no offense if any of you enjoyed it), I am extremely wary.
So what are your thoughts on this?? ?I'm very curious to know.

i read over at Fangoria's site a few weeks ago that Robert Englund's not reprising his role as Freddy but doing a top secret cameo. Sucks. Cause Freddy was Robert and I don't think it'll be the same without him. I was fearing this forever that one day if they continue to make more Freddy movies either 1) he'll pass on and they'll get some bum to replace him or 2) they'll replace him and he's still alive and there was still a chance they could've used Mr. Englund. See im a Freddy nut and I won't ever get sick of seeing Englund as Freddy. I grew up on Freddy for cryin' out loud. I really hope they don't screw this up. But most likely they will. Who knows....

I have to say I'm not looking forward to this, I'm tired of all the remakes as it is, but to remake a film where the main character is so well known thanks to Roberts iconic performance I just don't see how they are going to get past that, whoever appears as Freddy will suffer by comparison.

No doubt! I do kind of feel bad for the actor who will replace him. He's going to be automatically hated by a vast majority of us Elm Street minions before he's even given a chance. I really have to try to keep an open mind about this. Otherwise, I just get sad. But last time I had high hopes for a remake, I was so horribly disappointed that it almost ruined the whole series for me (almost!).
My beef with the Halloween remake (well, some of it) is that I felt like the first half was another Devil's Rejects flick, and then all hopes of originality were flushed like a big piece of poo during the 2nd half, when the ONLY creative death scene and cinematography moment was when Linda's boyfriend got killed, which happened to be the ONLY shot-for-shot exact moment stol...er, I mean inspired by the original. And Danielle Harris... what the fudge was that?!! I loved her in 4 and 5. She absolutely killed Jamie Lloyd for me. 4 and 5 were my favorites and now they're hard to watch.
Other remakes in the work that I'm ticked off about: Wizard of Gore, Cannibal Holocaust, and The Evil Dead.

Couldn't agree more about the Halloween remake, thought the first half was great, the casting was inspired and it was at least different, as soon as we got to Michael being all grown up Rob just copied the original with none of Carpenter's style.
Of the other remakes you mention Cannibal Holocaust is at least being made by it's original director but still it can't possibly get away with as much as the 1979 classic. The Evil Dead one is just plain ridiculous and I'm still at odds as to how you can make a decent remake of Wizard of Gore, these films were made what they were by directors with vision and imagination, no matter how much money and CGI you throw at them they are still going to be poor relations that at their very best are just going to make you want to watch the original again.

Deodato is doing the CH remake?? That I did not know! That is a big sigh of relief.
The Evil Dead remake was rumored to star Ashton Kutcher. Now how credible that rumor actually is, I am not sure. But I can just imagine it. Blegh.
But the worse remake I think I've seen so far is The Fog.

Just an update on that Cannibal Holocaust remake, Deodato had apparently decided against doing it until he got chance to see Hostel, it's now set for a 2009 release.

you know, I saw a preview for Wizrd of Gore, and I'll be damned if it doesn't look really good!
Of course, Crispin Glover playing the part of Montag sure doesn't hurt. I think he's one of the most underrated actors of our time!
And I do think it's fitting that the female victims are played by Suicide Girls...

hopefully this trend will die down eventually.
same thing happened some years ago with music tribute cd's.
sometimes a original can be improved or just be cool to have a different take on it but it can be so over done.

I am with you guys...how the fuck can they even attempt ANOES flick without Robert England? I am also sick and tired of all these weak ass remakes of horror classics where all they have is bigger budgets, better looking girls and that's it. Look at the Fog remake...wtf was that?...not only did they wanna remake it but totally changed the ending. Remakes that do not evolve any original contributors just plain suck !
